Toward the end of the first year of the implementation of the GGS Project, a local platform workshop was organized to discuss the progress and future activities in Yangon and in Kathmandu. The workshop was held at the Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) Building on January 26, 2017. The CEO of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (LSMC), Mr. Bharat Mani Pandey, and the Municipal Engineer of Karyabinayak Municipality, Ms. Shubha Amatya, went to Yangon to present about their experience in 2016 and their planned activities for the 2017. Mr. Saw Htwe Zaw of MES presented the activities of Yangon City.
The result of the Urban Seismic Assessment conducted by MES was presented by Mr. Wai Yar Aung, a member of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee (MEC) and a Master’s student of Yangon Technological University (YTU). After the presentation, the local workshop participants were divided into two groups and were asked to create a scenario showing what would happen if a destructive earthquake happens in the morning (Pazundaung Township group) or in the evening (Tamwe Township group). A representative from each group presented their group’s output.
