The second local platform workshop in Yangon was conducted on 22-23 June 2016. The first day of the workshop was held at the Meeting Room of the Myanmar Engineering Society (MES) Building. The outline of the GGS Project and the joint research topics were explained to the attendees by U Saw Htwe Zaw of MES. It was decided that the methodology for “Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards” developed by Federal Emergency Management Agency of the US will be used in the earthquake risk assessment in the target wards. Town watching will also be conducted in order to involve the residents of the target wards in the risk assessment process.
On the second day of the workshop, MES, Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), and Yangon Technological University (YTU) staff met with the residents of Byane Kwet Thit Ward in Tamwe Township and of No. 2 Ward in Pazundaung Township to introduce the town watching activity and to fix the schedule of the next local platform workshop. The workshop participants also held an initial inspection of the area to be covered in the town watching.
